The Minister of Health of the Government of Navarra, Fernando Domínguez, chaired this Monday a meeting with the agents that make up the Sanfermines 2024 health device that are coordinated for health care during the confinement and in other situations typical of the holidays.

The Health Department of the Government of Navarra recommends that the population, if they require health care during the Sanfermines 2024, go to their health center (working days from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and outside of these hours use the extra-hospital emergency services of the Dr. San Martín and Buztintxuri centers, leaving the hospital ones for the most serious cases.

Device of the enclosures

The special care device for people injured in the running of the bulls will be made up of nine health care posts at the foot of the fence, with medical, nursing and lifeguard personnel, as well as another eight support points with lifeguards, to which we must add the Plaza’s own infirmary. The bull run is 848 metres long and will therefore have a health care point approximately every 50 metres. The entire support system will be coordinated from the 112-SOS Navarra Centre.

These stands will be located at the beginning of Cuesta de Santo Domingo (headquarters of the Department of Education), stairs of the Museum of Navarra, Plaza de Santiago (behind the Town Hall), stairs of San Saturnino, Town Hall (2), Mercaderes (2), Bajada de Javier (2), Travesía de Espoz y Mina, Tejería, Duque de Ahumada, Bajada de Labrit, Amaya (“Telefónica” or south alley), Hemingway (north alley) and Plaza de Toros.

The medical transport system has 16 medicalizable ambulancesAlong the route of the bull run, two of these will be used as a checkpoint in the Plaza del Castillo, to direct them from the 112-SOS Navarra Centre to any point along the route that requires more medical transport. This assistance device will be staffed by a minimum of eight medical professionals, eight nursing professionals, 21 transport technicians, 47 lifeguards, nine communication workers and eight post coordinators.

Care along the route will be provided with resources and health and support personnel from the Red Cross (100), DYA (30) and the Navarre Health Service-Osasunbidea (9 professionals: 5 in medicine and 4 in nursing), who will carry out health care from the care posts themselves and the transfer by ambulance to the HUN from the sector assigned to them, providing real-time information to the SOS Navarra 112 Coordinating Center about the wounds and injuries of the people treated.

The 112 SOS Navarra Coordinating Centre will be responsible for organising healthcare and referring injured people to the various healthcare centres so that the most seriously injured are the first to arrive at the HUN, or to the centre determined by 112-SOS Navarra. Therefore, as was established in previous years, the transfer of those with minor injuries already treated at the foot of the fence will take place once the most seriously injured have been evacuated to the hospital.
