One of the most consolidated solidarity events in Axarquía arrives in the run-up to summer. The Malaga Provincial Council’s brand for promoting the agri-food sector of the Malaga Provincial Council, Sabor a Málaga, will collaborate one more year with the Costa del Sol Oriental-Axarquía Golf Tournament Against Cancer, which celebrates its charter edition on June 1 at the Baviera Golf Club in Vélez-Málaga. Registration has closed with 180 participants. This is an event organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer together with Baviera Golf and which also has the collaboration of the municipalities of Rincón de la Victoria, Frigiliana, Vélez-Málaga, Nerja and Torrox.

This was announced by the vice president of Municipal Assistance, María Francisca Caracuel, accompanied by María Santos, responsible for sustainability of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Malaga and the manager of the Baviera Club, Aurora del Río, as well as municipal representatives of the collaborating City Councils. Caracuel thanked the local councils in the area for their involvement in the development of this tournament “which is a true benchmark in Axarquía and the entire province of Malaga” and whose main purpose is to raise funds for cancer research and to guarantee “the free services that the Spanish Association Against Cancer offers in the region.”

Therefore, the vice president took the opportunity to remember that “the AECC will be able to continue counting on the provincial institution in its multiple projects that it develops throughout the year, ranging from prevention campaigns, to solidarity initiatives and financing of projects or rehabilitation of headquarters thanks to the calls for aid from the Provincial Council. Likewise, he explained that Sabor a Málaga joins this tournament for another year with the participation of chef Pablo Vega, from the Ménade restaurant (Baviera Golf), who will offer a cocktail to the participants with products from the province of Málaga, thanks to the collaboration of eleven producers: Frutas y Verduras Eladio, Icarben, Famadesa, Prolongo, Ibéricos Yunquera, Pastor del Torcal Cheeses, Cabraline Cheeses, La Abuela Loli Sausages, Al-andalus Gold Oil, Pinto Wood Oven and Picos San Roque de Antequera.

All players will receive water, fruit and a welcome pack with welcome gifts during the tour.

Skin cancer prevention

Furthermore, as in all the golf tournaments organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, the importance of skin cancer prevention will be emphasized, since the province of Malaga has more than 300 days of sunshine a year. To this end, thanks to La Roche Posay, golfers have sun protection in their welcome pack and information brochures on the effects of the sun on the skin and how to prevent its adverse effects will be distributed at the tournament. The awards ceremony will take place on the same day of the tournament, on the terrace of the Baviera Golf Club House.

For his part, Santos explained that, in just three editions, the Spanish Association Against Cancer tournament has already become the most important charity tournament on the Eastern Costa del Sol. Proof of this is that registration had to close two weeks before due to having reached the maximum quota of 180 players. He also thanked the City Councils, Provincial Council and Baviera Golf for their collaboration.

The objective of the tournament is to raise funds that will be used for cancer research and the free services that the association provides in the Axarquía region. Among them, the transfer of patients to hospitals from Axarquía to Malaga, psychological care, the attention of their social workers, the loan of orthopedic material, wigs or prostheses; or prevention campaigns or the free transfer of their residential apartments to patients and relatives who have to receive cancer treatment in Malaga, so that they are in a suitable environment close to hospital centers.
